Eye-Surgery Program
Helps Nicaraguans
MANAGUA - Nicaraguans
are among those most
benefited from Operation
Miracle, a highly
successful
program courtesy of the
governments of Cuba and
Venezuela as part of the
efforts of the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Peoples of
America ALBA.
Every month, low income
patients previously
selected to have free
eye surgery are taken to
Venezuelan territory,
the coordinator of the
program at international
level Manuel Pacheco
said.
More than 22,000 Latin
American people were
treated for different
eye diseases, mainly
from Chile, Costa Rica,
Dominican Republic,
Nicaragua and Honduras,
among others.
Nearly 8,000 patients
have traveled to Caracas
all along 2008, 101
Chileans, 103 Dominican,
92 Costa Ricans and 95
Nicaraguans out of that
number, who are at
present receiving
medical assistance.
