October Wettest Month On
Record
According to the
Instituto Meteorológico
Nacional (IMN) -
national weather service
- the storm has ended
and normal seasonal
rainy weather is
expected for the coming
week.
After almost a week of
torrential rains that
caused flooding in many
areas, washed out roads,
damaging hundreds of
homes, affecting more
than 70.000 people,
direclty and indirectly,
and responsible for
seven deaths, seasonal
weather is expected to
resume today.
The storm that gripped
the country during the
past week was due to a
tropical depression near
the Honduras - Nicaragua
border.
Seasonal weather are hot
and sunny morning,
clouding over for the
afternoon, rain and a
cooling off period for
the evening and the same
the next day.
October is the wettest
month of the rainy
season, normally with a
rain fall of between 300
and 350 millimetres.
This October, however,
is one fore the record
books as more than 400
millimetres of rain fell
on the country and there
is still more to come.
November is a
transitional month, as
the rainy season comes
to an end in the first
week or two of November,
as the rain tapers off
and the "dry" or summer
season begins, where
there is little to no
rain until April.
