Venezuela Border Ops to Continue
CARACAS - The Venezuelan National Guard said Saturday border operations in Tachira state against the smuggling of goods will continue.

Operations this week resulted into the confiscation of 15 bicycles carrying contraband oil, as well as six vehicles and 17 motorcycles.

As a result, those smuggling food and oil from Venezuela to Colombia held several protests, and an international bridge was closed more than once.

The disturbances took place Wednesday and Thursday on the Colombian side of the General Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge, by people who take advantage of the difference in prices.

Hernandez admitted the situation on the border is socially delicate, because smuggling has become a way of living for some people, who do not consider it a crime.

However, he told La Nacion regional daily that the act is punishable, and the National Guard cannot close its eyes to the illegal flow of goods.
