Majority of Costa Ricans Want The New Stadium
Although the Sala Constitucional (Constitutional Court) put the brakes on the construction of the new stadium in La Sabana park, the majority of Costa Ricans want to see the project move ahead and be completed.

According to a pool by Demoscopía and published in the Spanish language daily, Al Día, 79.6% of Costa Ricans polled reject the "recurso de amparo"" - appeal to the Constitutional Court - by the former ministro de Cultura, Guido Sáenz and his group that resulted in the court decision.

Only 17.4% were in favour of stopping the construction and 3% had no opinion.

The poll was taken on October 9 and took in the responses of 402 people over the age of 18 in all parts of the country. The results have a margin of error of +/- 4.9%.

The Constitutional Court ruled last Monday in favour of the Sáenz appeal calling for an environmental and impact study that lead to the court halting the construction that was to have started next month.

The Demoscopía poll also showed that 80.3% agreed with president Arias' statement that he is "tired" of so many obstacles and hindrances to many of the governments initiatives. 18.7%, however, felt that Arias is wrong.

Driving by in a taxi where the empty lot where the old stadium stood and the new stadium is to stand, the driver (who will remain unnamed) commented that "they should have at least not cut down the trees if they intend not to build the stadium".

The same driver also offered his own personal perspective on the current mess, blaming it on a feud between the "culture" ministry and the sports federation, who have never seen eye to eye in the past regarding the use of the park.
