TACA Adds 11 New
Airplanes To Its Fleet
The Central American
airline, TACA, is adding
11 new airplanes to its
fleet and will be flying
under a Costa Rican
registration, as the
company undergoes a
renewal.
Last week the airline,
based in El Salvador,
introduced a new logo
and look for the
airline.
The first two of the new
planes will begin flying
on October 15. Delivery
of two more will be by
the end of the year and
the remaining seven will
be delivered in 2009.
The airlines says it
will be using the new
Embraer 190's mainly on
routes between San José,
Panama, La Habana,
Guatemala and Managua.
The planes are smaller
that the Airbus 310,
holding only 98
passengers instead of
the Airbus capacity of
118. The airline says
the new planes are more
comfortable and
incorporate the latest
technological advances
in aviation.
Most importanlty, TACA
spokesperson, Claudia
Arenas, said the
incorporation of the new
planes in the company's
fleet will not increase
ticket prices.
That is not too much
comfort to travellers
from Costa Rica and
Central America as
ticket prices are
generally high compared
to prices on flights
generating from the US
to Central American
destinations.
For example, travel
deals of less than
us$300 can be found on
return flights between
Miami and San José,
while a return trip
between San José and
Panama can cost over
us$350.
Ernesto Gutiérrez,
director of Transporte
Aéreo de TACA, said that
the "Tango India (TI)"
registration is the
airline's confidence in
Costa Rican aeronautics.
