President Arias Offers Support For María José
Costa Rica president, Oscar Arias, has been known for his appetite to brush up with film and music personalities, the latest being the Colombian artist, Juanes, who met with the president at his home following an official request by Casa Presidencial to the musician's management for a meeting.

Mel Gibson, has been also been a frequent visit to the Arias home in Rohrmoser.

However, this time, the prez is setting his sights on a would be star that in his words, would make Costa Rica proud. That would be star is María José Castillo, who could take the title Latin American Idol this Wednesday.

And to ensure that María José has a shot at the title, president Arias and the ministra de Cultura, María Elena Carballo, on Friday signed a decree that María José's presentation on the Latin American Idol is declared a "cultural interest", thus allowing the government to divert funds to promote support for the would be star.

At a meeting with María José's family over the weekend, the prez wants to make sure that she has all the support of Costa Ricans and all over Latin America.

"She has managed to touch the hearts of all Costa Ricans, in every corner of the country, of all social classes and has united Costa Ricans who wish her a victory. If she raises her voice, not only will the angels hear her but we are also going to take that trophy and that is why we should feel very proud", said Arias.

President Arias donated personally ¢1 million colones to the parents of María José - José Luis Castillo and María Eugenia Gutiérrez - so that they can send more messages to the ensure their daughter's win.

In addition María José is expected to be named the "mariscal" (grand marshall) of this year's Festival de la Luz in San José.

To show your support for María José, send a text message from your cellular phone with the words "MARIA" to 43657.

The contest will be broadcast live on Wednesday from Argentina and can be seen locally on the Sony Entertainment Channel at 7pm.
