The legendary sanatorio Durán, north of the city of Cartago, 18 kilometres before arriving at the Volcán Irazú, the old building that once served a specialized medical centre of attention for patients with tuberculosis until 1963, later to become a jail, may soon be a school for "agro-turístico" (Agri-tourism).

The building, built in 1915 at the initiative of Dr. Carlos Durán, was finally closed in the 1970's and today under the care of the UPA Nacional. However, lack of funding has allowed the building to deteriorate, following damage caused by eruptions of the nearby volcano.

However, legislative deputy, Francisco Marín, is pushing ahead a plan to rescue the building and convert it into a technical school for agri-tourism.

According to the legislator, his interest it to revive the beauty and productivity of the centre.
