Air Comet Suspends
Flights To Costa Rica
Air Comet, with regular
flights between San José
and Madrid, Spain,
announced that it will
suspend its flights for
at least the next
months, blaming the move
on escalating fuel
prices.
The airline said it will
also take the time to
remodel its fleet.
The airline has been
operating three weekly
direct flights between
Costa Rica and Spain for
the last 15 months,
using Airbus A-330
aircrafts, which are
being replaced with
A-340's.
The airline carried some
23.000 passengers a year
between the two
countries.
The airline was quick to
point out that the move
is not against Costa
Rica, as other routes
like Chile, though it
declined to provide
details of that
suspension.
Air Comet joins the list
of two other airlines
who have cancelled
flights to and from
Costa Rica: Delta,
cancelling direct
flights between San José
and New York, and First
Choice, who will stop
flying to Costa Rica in
May.
While some airlines
prefer to cancel
flights, Copa Airlines
announced that it will
be charging a surcharge
of us$15 on every ticket
issued by travel
agencies or at the
aiports in Guatemala,
Nicaragua, El Salvador,
Jamaica and Costa Rica.
The surcharge, according
to the airline, is an
administrative charge
applied to every ticket
issued and is not
refundable and will not
be applied to customers
using the One Pass Elite
and Skyteam Elite or
corporate accounts.. |
