Fender Bender Between
Supply Truck And
Airliner Strands 300
300 passengers of
Continental's fligt 1490
headed for Houston sat
on the tarmac at the
Juan Santamaría (San
José) airport for three
hours yesterday before
the airline cancelled
the flight altogether.
It appears that the
airliner's fuselage
suffered a bump from one
a food service supply
truck causing the flight
to be cancelled and
stranding all the
passengers that were to
have left Costa Rica at
12:30pm.
Although the damage to
the aircraft was light,
Continental safety
policies required the
airline to take photos
and get the green light
from Houston before the
the aircraft could be
cleared for takeoff.
Many of the upset
passengers blamed
Alterra, the airport
manager, for the
problem, Alterra
manager, Fernando Lara,
explained the food
service is provided by a
private contractor and
none of their employees
belong to Alterra.
For the 300 passengers
on board 1490, it mean
lost connection and an
extra night in San José.
