It's Cooooollllldddd Out
There Baby! As Cold
Spell Continues
DOn't put away that coat
or heavy sweater just
yet as the cold front
that has gripped the
country will continue
for a few more days.
According to the
Instituto Meteorológico
Nacional (IMN), the cold
snap will last well into
the weekend.
Yesterday the IMN
recorded a low
temperature of 13
Celsius (55.40
fahrenheit) and winds of
up to 75 kilometres (47
miles) per hour. The
lower temperautre on
record for the last 10
years ias 12.5 Celsius
(54.50 fahrenheit).
IMN's Rebeca Morera says
that the whole country
is affected by the
strong winds and cold
temperatures.
Typical conditions
during the next several
days are sunny and brisk
mornings, scattered
showers in the Central
Valley and Pacific
regions and lots of rain
in the Caribbean coast,
as swollen rivers are
causing concern for
residents.
Tides in the Guanacaste
are expected to reach 3
metres while in the
Caribbean it is being
battered by 4 metre
tides.
Morera explained that
these are normal
conditions for the
season and that Central
Valley officially enters
the "dry" or summer
season next week and mid
December for the South
Pacific, while the
"rainy" season goes into
full swing in the
Northern Zone and
Caribbean coast.
The strong winds have
also caused damages to
power lines. The
Compañía Nacional de
Fuerza y Luz reports 226
problems over the last
couple of days, mainly
caused by falling tree
branches.
