Venezuelan President
Calls On Active Voting
in Elections
Caracas - Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez on
Thursday urged all his
supporters to vote in
the upcoming regional
elections for state
governors, city mayors
and state legislative
councils.
Chavez made the call
during a meeting in the
city of San Felipe,
capital of the state
Yaracuy, some 270 km
west of the capital
Caracas, where he headed
a gathering of thousands
of supporters dressed in
red.
This was Chavez's second
visit, since the
election campaign began
on Sept. 23, to Yaracuy
to support the
candidates of the United
Socialist Party of
Venezuela (PSUV), the
party Chavez created in
December 2007.
Chavez called on the
people in Yaracuy to
vote to achieve an
overwhelming victory in
municipal elections on
Nov. 23.
Warning the danger of
abstentions, he said in
2006 he won the
presidential elections
with 7 million votes,
but in 2007 he lost the
constitutional
referendum with 4
million votes.
"Three million did not
go to vote. We defeated
ourselves!" Chavez said.
