Venezuela Seeks Positive
Ties With New U.S.
Government in 2009
Venezuela wishes to
reestablish a new level
of "positive and
constructive" relations
with the next U.S.
government, Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez
said Wednesday.
During a meeting with
visiting Portuguese
Prime Minister Jose
Socrates, Chavez said
his government has great
hopes for establishing a
new level of relations
in 2009 with the next
president of the United
States.
Chavez denied that
Venezuela was a threat
to the U.S., saying that
his country's daily oil
export to the U.S has
reached 1.5 million
barrels, annual
commercial exchange has
topped 50 billion U.S.
dollars, and with
thousands of U.S.
companies doing business
in Venezuela, it is
appropriate to seek new
levels of mutual ties.
Meanwhile, Venezuela and
Portugal signed 22
agreements related to
energy, food supplies,
infrastructure and
health during Socrates'
visit. |
