Busts Luggage Looting
Gang
Costa Rican authorities
gave a hard blow to a
criminal gang dedicated
to looting luggage at
the Aeropuerto
Internacional Juan
Santamaria in San José.
Cellular telephones,
video and still cameras,
watches and other
jewellery, were all part
of the loot that was
confiscated by
authorities on Tuesday.
Stephen Madden, of the
policía aeroportuaria
(airport police) said
that the gang tried to
circumvent a police net
set up at the airport.
However, authorities
were able to nad the
gang and the stolen
items.
Authorities say that the
group faked the
operation of a cargo
company working the
terminal area and
responsible for more
than ¢2 billion colones
(almost us$ million
dollars) worth of stolen
merchandise.
Madden added that the
gang did not just work
the internal part of the
airport, but are also
responsible for a number
of assault outside the
airport installation,
targeting tourists
mainly.
The airport police is
