5.3-Degree Quake Shakes Colombian-Venezuelan Border
A 5.3 degree Richter-scale earthquake shook on Friday the Norte de Santander department, bordering Venezuela, but neither victims nor material damages were reported, reported Colombia's Seismological Network.

Colombian earthquake expert Fernando Aguirre said the quake, occurred at 11:36 local time (1636 GMT), was felt by inhabitants in Cucuta, capital of Norte de Santander Department, although rescue teams did not receive calls to report victims nor damages.

The earthquake's epicenter was located at 10 km from Zapatoca municipality, with a 5.3 degree magnitude and 300 km deep.

Many Colombian regions have been hit by earthquakes in recent days, although experts do not believe any of them are interrelated.

Aguirre said an electricity post suffered damages in Cucuta but reiterated that rescue teams reported that everything is normal.

Officials discarded major damages, although Cucuta's inhabitants felt a strong shake.
