Tamarindo Could Be
Cleaned Up in A Week
The Tamarindo sea could
be clean within a week
if the sources of the
contamination are
identified and closed
off, said Darner Mora,
director of the Programa
Bandera Azul Ecológica (BAE)
- blue flag program.
Mora added that the have
already identified a
dozen sources of the
contamination that
caused the beach
community to lose its
blue flag certification
and scoring the lowest
of all the eight
polluted beaches
identified by the BAE.
This is the second time
Tamarindo loses its BAE
certification.
Juan Luis Sánchez,
director of the Área de
Salud de Santa Cruz,
said that the situation
has improved, but
requires a constant
follow up of the sources
that have presented
problems.
Sánchez added that as
part of their actions,
they have already closed
down one small hotel,
the Hoster Tamarindo,
and have issued orders
against the Tamarindo
Diría.
Sánchez explained that
the Diría order, for
now, is for the hotel
group to provide
explanations of the
concerns by authorities.
Another large hotel that
is being followed up by
the BAE is the Barceló
Langosta.
