Gulf Cartel Linked to
Guatemala Slaughter
Guatemalan authorities
investigate the
possibility that a cell
of Mexican drug
traffickers from the
Gulf Cartel, notorious
drug running group based
in Mexico, is linked to
the slaughter of 11
people, several wounded
and six detained in the
department of Zacapa.
The Public Drugs
Prosecutor Giovanni
Castro declared the main
task of that department
is to establish if the
seized vehicles had some
type of hidden
compartment or drug
signs, although nothing
has been found so far.
Guatemalans Juan Jose
Leon, alias Juancho,
allegedly Head of a
Zacapa Cartel, his
brother Enrique and
Mateo Ajvix Xol, Pedro
Oswin Olivares and
Oswaldo Garcia Ruano, as
well as Mexican Arturo
Damian Casanova are
among the ones deceased.
Authorities also managed
to identify the two
individuals carbonized
within one of the
vehicles set on fire due
to the explosion of a
grenade as Mario Rene
Alvarado and Arnold
Rosales, El Guiro.
Some 30 firearms,
including assault rifles
and automatic pistols,
and a total of nine
vehicles involved in the
events were found in the
place, Government
Minister spokesman
Ricardo Gatica reported.
Three Mexican citizens
were also arrested and
equal number of
Guatemalans, who are in
a prison of this capital
under severe security
measures, the spokesman
added.
More than 50 people
among members of the
Public Ministry,
National Civil Police
and investigators still
work in the crime scene. |
