President Arias in Nicaragua To Boost Co-Operation; San Juan Conflict Still To Go International Court
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias is in Nicaragua to attend the 6th Binational meeting which started Thursday in Granada.

In welcoming Arias, President Daniel Ortega said this meeting will help overcome obstacles, strengthen relations and boost ties in every field for both countries.

Arias thanked the reception and voiced satisfaction for having resumed these meetings that will address matters like tourism and the infrastructure needed to boost it. The two men are said to have discussed sustainable tourism development of the common border areas.

Arias also offered to share Costa Rican experience on environment with Nicaragua and reaffirmed that the agenda for these bilateral meetings will expand in the future.

The meeting did not touch on the ongoing dispute over navigational rights of the San Juan river that is before the International Court at the Hague.

Costa Rica assures it is moving forward with its action against Nicaragua to ensure its navigational rights of the river, granted to it over a 100 years ago.

The San Juan is clearly in Nicaraguan territory and Costa Rica is making no claim for such, rather that Nicaragua has refused to allow armed Costa Rican authorities to patrol the river.
