Argentine Congress Approves Law Amendment On Consumer Protection
Argentina's congress has approved a Consumer Law modification to boost consumer protection, local media reported Thursday.

Under the new law which was approved Wednesday, manufacturer will face a fine of up to five million pesos (1.7 million U.S. dollars) if a defected product worth 3,000 pesos (1,000 dollars) or above is reported.

The law covers traveling tickets and a wide range of household items as well as public services including telephone, gas, water and electricity.

Argentina approved a consumer law in 1993 and established special courts five years later for consumer protection.
