Taxman Shuts Down 15 Retail Stores in Heredia For Non Payment of Taxes
The Dirección Regional de Tributación Directa del Ministerio de Hacienda - the taxman - decided it could not take it anymore and decided to shut down 15 businesses in Heredia centre yesterday.

The closures were for lack of payment of taxes by the businesses.

Flor Rodríguez, gerente de Administración Tributaria de Heredia, said that the businesses had made their tax declarations but did not make payments within the established time frame.

The types of businesses closed varied from an optical store to a number of small bakeries.

"We shut down 15 stores for failure to comply with tax regulations and it is not with intention to cause damage to anyone but rather that businesses see the that paying taxes is a serious matter", said Guillermo Zúñiga, the ministro de Hacienda.

The minister added that in addition to the 15, there will be 25 more that will for sure be shut down as well unless they pay their taxes up to date.
