Mattero Quintavalle, the Italian businessman accused of fraud by his American investors, has been ordered by the Juzgado Penal de Pavas to pay up ¢150 million colones (us$303.000) by not later than April 2 or be back behind bars.
The order was signed by judge Éricka Chaves this past Tuesday, rejecting Quintavalle's request to eliminate or or lower his bail.

The judge said that the the fundamental defense by Quintavalle to request a change in the preventive measures lacked proof and did not establish the current economic situation of the businessman.

Quintavalle is accused of alleged financial intermediation for his American investors who say they have lost us$12.5 million dollars.

Forming part of the judge's decision was the opposition by the investors, who though their lawyer, Carlos Ayón, who said that his clients are firm in following through with their action against Quintavalle.
