New Map of Costa Rica

New Map of Costa Rica
The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) has published a new map of Costa Rica, a relief map that shows details of the mountains and valleys. The IGN is part of the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT).

The last relief map was published in 1974.

According to the MOPT press release, the map is printed at a 1:525.000 scale and is 100 centimetres by 70 centimetres in sizes, printed in full colour.

Max Lobo, director of the IGN, explained that the new images show the road system and infrastructure of the country and includes the names of the 81 cantones, the centre of the 470 districts and the 1.225 towns.

"The number of towns in the country is much greater", said Lobo, adding that due to the scale of the map, including the names of all the towns, at the scale, it would have made the map illegible.

The MOPT gave the Librería Francesa the concession right to sell the map and can be purchased for ¢45.000 (us$90) without a frame and ¢47.000 (us95) framed.

To purchase a map visit the neared location of the Librería Francesa or call 253-4242 (2253-4252 after March 20).
