Immigration And CANATUR
To Control Passengers
The Dirección
General de Migración y
Extranjería (immigration
service) and Camara
Nacional de Turismo de
Costa Rica (CANATUR) -
Costa Rica's National
Tourism Chamber - say
they will be working
together controlling
passengers arriving at
the Juan Santamaría (San
José) airport.
The plan will be soon
extended to the Daniel
Oduber International
airport in Liberia and
by the end of the year
be in place at the land
border crossings at
Peñas Blancas with
Nicaragua and Paso
Canoas with Panama.
The director of
Migración, Mario Zamora,
said that an electronic
system will control
movement of people
coming and leaving the
country. The electronic
system will eliminate
the delay in movement at
the airport and land
border crossing that
sometimes took five
months for immigration
officials to enter the
information on the paper
slips to the immigration
service computers.
With the new system,
Migración and CANATUR
will share information
in real time, knowing
exactly how many people
came in a left the
country at any given
moment.
The information will
also give authorities
details of the country
of origin and
destination of
passengers.
Gonzalo Vargas of
CANATUR said that the
information will be very
helpful to hotel and
tour operators to better
plan the number of rooms
required and fleet
vehicles for the car
rental companies, for
instance, as the
information is current
and not usually a season
behind. |
