Big Gas Price Hike Expected Next Week
The Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) says it is expecting a huge increase in the price of gasoline as the state refinery, RECOPE, gears up to make its monthly request by next Friday.

Aresep officials believe that the jump could be as more than ¢30 colones per litre, following the increase in the price of crude oil on international markets when it reached us$106 a barrel on Thursday.

Although RECOPE still has to formulate and present its request, Aresep officials are rumouring, in preparing the public for the jolt, of price increases of between ¢30 and ¢32 colones for super and regular gasoline and between ¢35 and ¢37 colones for a litre of diesel.

The current price of gasoline that went into effect Thursday is ¢565 for a litre of super; ¢553 for regular; and ¢511 for diesel.

The expected increase is sure to worry drivers as it directly affects their pocketbooks.
