Islamic University Signs Pact With Costa Rica University
The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has signed a memorandum of agreement with United Nations mandated University for Peace (UPEACE), Costa Rice, to start masters programme in peace and conflict studies later this year.

The dean of university Ajaz Rasool Matoo said both the institutions would promote exchange of qualified students and mutual interests. “The memorandum signed between the heads of respective institutions on January 28 will also promote joint research and teaching,” Ajaz said adding the arrangement would be renewed after every three years.

He said University of Peace would organize Master Curriculum Development Workshop (MCDW), providing academic training and conference materials to the faculty of the Islamic university.

“The Islamic University will assign four representatives including two faculty members to participate in the MCDW,” Ajaz said. He said the University for Peace would also select two junior faculty members of the Islamic University to obtain an MA at their university in Costa Rica.

“Upon completion of the UPEACE MA, elected junior faculty members will return to their home universities prepared to teach three courses in the New Peace and Conflict Studies Programme in the Islamic University,” he further said.

Giving details about the two year programme, the incharge public relations Ruheela Hassan told Greater Kashmir, “The two-year post-graduate course is being launched to promote the development of a democratic, multicultural and just society in Kashmir in particular and world in general by establishing a centre of excellence on international peace and conflict studies with an international reputation.”

“The centre would make contribution to humanity, peaceful co-existence in multicultural society at home and abroad. It would provide humanity with an institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress,” Ruheela said.
