McCain To Visit Latin
America Next Week
U.S. Republican
presidential candidate
John McCain is set to
visit Latin American
countries of Mexico and
Columbia next week, his
campaign said on
Thursday.
According to a
statement, the Arizona
Senator would arrive in
Columbian city of
Cartagena on Tuesday for
a two-day stay, during
which he was set to meet
Columbian leaders
including President
Alvaro Uribe.
The Republican-proposed
Free Trade Agreement
with Columbia was stuck
at Congress due to the
opposition from
Democrats who dominate
the legislature.
President George W. Bush
and his administration
officials have
repeatedly called for
the immediate passage of
the bill.
The campaign statement
said that McCain would
be in Mexico City on
Thursday without
disclosing any details
about the visit.
McCain, who was a
Vietnam War survivor and
had a leading voice on
national security issue
in Congress, has been
always touting his
experience in foreign
and defense affairs
during his competition
against Democratic
presidential candidate
Barack Obama, the
Illinois Senator who is
still in his first term.
Since he clinched the
presidential nominee,
McCain has paid several
visits abroad with the
latest one to Canada.
On the other hand, Obama
was also set to show his
diplomatic capabilities
by visiting foreign
countries, possibly
including Iraq and
Afghanistan, the two hot
spots American voters
concern.
His campaign said on
Wednesday that the
trip's details would be
soon released.
