Gasoline Stations and
Parking Lots Feeling The
Effect of High Gasoline
Prices
An effect of the high
prices of gasoline is
slow business at
gasoline stations and
parking lots, as many,
in addition to the
expanded vehicular
restrictions of San
José, have decided to
keep their cars at home
and use public
transportation.
A number of gasoline
stations visited in the
west end of San José
report a definite slow
down of business, fewer
cars coming into the
stations to fuel up, a
situation that will get
worse as more gasoline
price increases are on
the way.
Filling up a the station
in Pavas, diagonal to
the US embassy, one of
the busiest stations in
the west end, with more
than 60 pumps and long
lines at peak hours, was
a breeze yesterday
afternoon. Only a
handful of vehicles
where in the station at
any given time.
The other business that
is being affected by the
high gasoline prices are
the downtown San José
parking lots, where a
"lot full" sign was hard
to spot yesterday.
A survey of some of
drivers on the vehicular
restriction found a
varied number of
responses, some were in
full agreement to others
with total objection to
others who were not
aware of the change.
Some drivers were well
aware of the
restrictions but decided
to take their changes
with the Tránsitos.
Others, like vendors
from the provinces with
heavy trucks found the
restriction burdensome
as they would have to
wait out the time doing
nothing, not being able
to get to their
customers as usual.
