Annual Credit Interest Can Be More Than 50%
Ever wonder shown many different types of credit cards are being offered by financial institutions in Costa Rica? According to the most recent study by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio (MEIC), the number is 346.

The MEIC study that was done in May shows that four credit card products disappeared from the market, while eight new ones were introduced.

Aval Card introduced seven new Visa international cards: Paseo de las Flores, Paseo de las Flores Oro, Paseo de las Flores Platino, Plaza Monte General, Perimercados and Perimercados Oro.

The credit cards with the highest interest rates are the BCT with an annual rate of 50.4%, followed by Visa Maxima with a rate of 46.92%.

The cards with the lowest interest rates on the market at the Banco Nacional Mastercard with an annual rate of 18% and Signature Internacional del Banco Cuscatlán at 20%.

Credomatic is the single largest issuer of credit cards with 81 different types, followed by Bancrédito with 46 and Banco Nacional with 39, according to the MEIC study.

Scotiabank Offering 10% Cashback on Gasoline Purchases
Competing for credit card share of the market, Scotiabank is offering it "10% cashback" promotion on all purchases of gasolines made with their Visa or Mastercard credit cards.

The bank is offering the cashback on all credit cards with the first six numbers starting with: 441178, 473298, 489771, 493140, 493142, 493143, 424102, 424101, 513695, 526845, 44117809 and 493143.

The promotion is a 10% cashback on all purchases of gasoline stations in Costa Rica between May 1 and July 31. However, the maximum cashback is limited to ¢15.000 colones each month and open only to customers who on average use their cards to make purchases of ¢25.000 colones or more at merchants other than gasoline stations.
 

Scotiabank rewards its credit card customers with a 10% cashback on all gasoline purchases.
