US Beer Will Be Cheaper Once TLC Approved
"Gringa" beers could soon cost much less that Costa Rican beers once the Tratado de Libre Comercio (TLC) - free trade agreement with the United States - kicks in, thanks to a vote of 33 to 10, by legislators approving a trade deal amendment.

The amendment calls for a gradual reduction of 15% tariff over the next 15 years that takes effect from the date the trade deal was first approved, March 2006.

If Costa Rica finally approves the trade deal this year, the tariff on the US beer would be 12% and drop to 11% on January 1, 2009 and drop further each subsequent year.

Costa Rican beer in the US is not charged duty.
