Sabana Park To Breathe New Air
With the construction of high rise condominiums around the Parque La Sabana - one already built, another under construction and several others in the planning stage - the emphasis is now to begin a process of beautifying the park by replacing old and damage trees with new.

The Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad - INBio - will be carrying out an investigation which trees need to be exchanged because of their age and/or damage, with the objective of breathing new air into the park.

The new trees will give the part more colour and will bring new life to the park attracting park animals like squirrels and birds to return.

According to Afio Piva, executive director of the INBio, the forest creast at INBioparque went front 24 species of birds to 68 that now call the park home.

INBio workers will begin to catalogue all the trees now in the park and determine their condition and then submit their list to the Ministerio de Ambiente (Environment ministry) for their replacement authorization, so as to begin planting by June.

The project has the financial backing of Scotiabank, which has two towers across the northwest corner of the park, as part of their social responsibility program according to Amanda Velásquez, manager of marketing and communications for the bank.

Bank employees will also be donating time to the project.
