72
Brazilians Released from
Forced Labour
A total of 72 Brazilian
were released this week
from conditions similar
to slavery, Mobile Group
of Control of Work and
Employment Ministry
reported Saturday.
The liberation happened
during an operation
carried out by five
control auditors of MTE,
two judicial attorneys
and eight agents of
Federal police who
answered to denounces
made in the
municipalities of
Tapurah, Nova Canna do
Norte and Feliz Natal in
the State of Mato Grosso.
Brazilian workers were
given degrading
conditions, with no
toilet installations and
were used as forced
slavery labor in
plantations of soy,
cotton and corn.
MTE reported 5, 877
workers were released
during 2007, who
underwent that kind of
illegal exploitation in
110 plantations, which
generated 3,075 legal
processes for detected
infractions. |
