72 Brazilians Released from Forced Labour
A total of 72 Brazilian were released this week from conditions similar to slavery, Mobile Group of Control of Work and Employment Ministry reported Saturday.

The liberation happened during an operation carried out by five control auditors of MTE, two judicial attorneys and eight agents of Federal police who answered to denounces made in the municipalities of Tapurah, Nova Canna do Norte and Feliz Natal in the State of Mato Grosso.

Brazilian workers were given degrading conditions, with no toilet installations and were used as forced slavery labor in plantations of soy, cotton and corn.

MTE reported 5, 877 workers were released during 2007, who underwent that kind of illegal exploitation in 110 plantations, which generated 3,075 legal processes for detected infractions.
