Caribbean States Form
Agenda
Top-level experts give
Thursday the final
touches to the agenda
and main documents the
Association of Caribbean
States (ACS)"s
Ministerial Council must
approve in this capital
January 25.
Wednesday under the
Panamanian presidency,
which leads the
organization for a year,
delegates from 28 nation
members are preparing
the draft of several
resolutions the foreign
ministers will sign.
The ministerial
meeting"s call indicates
that the gathering will
be opened by Panamanian
First Vice President and
Foreign Minister Samuel
Lewis, who will present
the political report of
the last year of
activities.
ACS general secretary
Ruben Silie, who
concludes his four-year
mandate, will present in
his farewell speech
achievements and pending
tasks of the
organization, founded on
July 24, 1994 to boost
the Caribbean
integration.
According to media,
Guatemala has consensus
to assume the ACS
General Secretariat in
the next four-year
period, while the
exercise to preside over
the Ministerial Council
corresponds to an
English-speaking nation
of the Caribbean
Community.
The ministers" meeting
acts as a main body of
the political
formulation and leads
the general secretary in
basic fronts like trade,
sustainable tourism,
transportation and
natural disasters.
Referring to natural
disasters, the Council
expects to approve an
action plan, adopted in
the ACS Top-Level
Conference held in Haiti
in November.
Finally, another key
issue to define in this
meeting is the financial
situation and
administrative structure
of the Caribbean
organization. |
