Guatemala Teachers Talk and Walk
Guatemala's National Teaching Assembly (ANM) agreed on Thursday to dialogue with education authorities, but maintains its call for a protest march January 31.

Union leader Joviel Acevedo confirmed that they will discuss the remaining points of the Collective Work Contract with Education Minister Ana de Molina on February 1.

The announcement rules out the immediate possibility of a teachers' strike, which would affect nearly two million students in public schools.

However, one day before the meeting with the minister, ANM plans to gather several thousand educators in the capital, to march along Reforma Avenue to the Education Ministry.

Meanwhile, Vice President Rafael Espada called on teachers to moderate their attitude, and reiterated that the government is willing to fulfill all campaign pledges.
