Ecuador Assembly Prepares Amnesty
Ecuadorian assembly members are preparing Thursday a proposal to request amnesty and pardon for former officials accused of political crimes and people imprisoned for transporting small quantities of drugs.

Lenin Hurtado, from the Democratic Popular Movement, said his group supports the request and recalled they previously demanded pardon for those involved in the Dayuma strike in the Amazon.

The group expects the confirmation of a 10-people commission from Country Alliance Movement to investigate each case analyzed by the head of State in his speech at the Constituent Assembly held in Montecristi Tuesday.

Maria Paula Romo, assembly member from that organization, stated that several colleagues are working to speed up investigations.

Romo recalled that the Constituent Assembly assumed functions of the National Congress and for that she is obliged to start the president's proposal.

Such commission will be in charge of analyzing amnesty for six managers from the Guarantee and Deposit Agency, to try corrupt bankers, former Head of State Gustavo Noboa and detainess from Dayuma and Machachi outrages.
