Venezuelan, Italian
Deputies for Multipolar
World
Venezuelan and Italian
parliamentarians called
for building a
multipolar world and
agreed to strengthen
bilateral relations
during a meeting at the
legislative palace on
Wednesday.
The president of the
Italian House of
Deputies, Fausto
Bertinotti, pointed out
that after meeting with
the executive board of
the Venezuelan National
Assembly, they decided
to preserve the
continuity of ties by
setting up a friendship
group.
Bertinotti, who heads
the Italian
parliamentary delegation
visiting Caracas, noted
the need to achieve
integration based on
respect, justice and the
study of Venezuela's
democratic precepts.
He pointed out that
bilateral trade in the
fields of energy,
economy, transportation,
infrastructure and
industrial organization
has increased over the
past few years, as well
as the Italian community
in Venezuela.
The Italian politician
promised support for
Yolanda Pulecio, who met
with him to speak about
her daughter, former
Colombian Presidential
Candidate Ingrid
Betancourt, who has been
held by Colombian
guerrillas.
Bertinotti said Pulecio
surprised him with her
love and courage despite
her suffering, as well
as with great political
lucidity, so he will
back any attempts to
release the people held
by the Colombian
Revolutionary Armed
Forces (FARC).
