Nicaragua: 55% Disapprove of Ortega's First Year
President Daniel Ortega has lost support in his first year back in office and is increasingly seen as authoritarian, according to a poll published Wednesday.

Ortega's disapproval rating rose more than 18 percentage points, from 36.4 percent in April to 54.6 percent in December, according to an M&R Consultores poll published in the daily La Prensa.

The poll interviewed 1,600 people from Dec. 26 to 30 and had a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.

Twenty-one percent said they support him.

Ortega, who took office last January, led Nicaragua throughout the 1980s after his Sandinista rebel movement pushed out dictator Anastasio Somoza.
