Blood Bank Urgently Requires Donations
The Banco Nacional de Sangre (blood bank) needs your help, as it desperately needs donations to maintain its reserves.

Erna Meléndez Bolaños, the director of the blood bank, said that the blood bank is very low on reserves due to the high demand from the hospitals and clinics over the holidays, even though there was a good response to the call during December 26, 27, 28 and 29.

The Banco Nacional de Sangre provides 50% of all blood requirements by Costa Rican hospitals, while the other 50% is supplied to a replacement program run by the medical centres, where there require a blood donation by relatives and friends before allowing any surgery.

To donate blood you must be between the ages of 18 and 60, must weigh over 50 Kg and be healthy. All blood types are required, especially O Positive, which is in most demand.

The Banco Nacional de Sangre is open daily from Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm and Saturdays to noon.

The blood bank is located at the south corner of the Zapote church.

For more information on donating blood you can call 283 7321 or 280 9875.
