Colombia Nixes Venezuela
DNA Experts
Colombia rejected the
presence of Venezuelan
experts during the DNA
tests on the boy named
Juan David Gomes,
alleged son of the
former candidate to the
vice presidency, Clara
Rojas, official sources
informed Friday.
Venezuelan Foreign
Minister Nicolas Maduro
told Venezolana de
Television, Colombian
Foreign Minister
Fernando Araujo told him
his country rejects
involvement of
Venezuelan experts.
The rebel Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia
(FARC) announced in
December they would
release Rojas, her son
Emmanuel, and former
deputy Consuelo
Gonzalez.
The Colombian refusal to
hold a joint
investigation ó casts
doubts on the
humanitarian process,
which had the immediate
cooperation of our
government, ó Maduro
added.
Such a stance clearly
reveals something
strange is going on, the
minister said, and added
ó the public opinion
must make its own
conclusions. ó It also
adds doubts to the
Colombian hypothesis
that the boy could be
Emmanuel, the official
sustained.
Colombian Attorney
General Mario Iguaran
recently announced the
DNA tests on the boy and
Clara Rojas' mother and
brother would be made
known on Friday at the
latest.
In the meantime, the
member of Colombia's
National Peace Council,
Alvaro Villagra,
affirmed today it is
imperative for the
parties involved to
resume and successfully
bring to an end the
mission for the release
of the detainees.
According to El Tiempo
daily, Villagra urged
the guerrilla group to
give the coordinates for
the handover, the
Venezuelan government to
maintain its valuable
support and
coordination, and the
Colombian executive to
make the guarantees
effective, and to be
willing to reach an
understanding. |
