Tough Fight for Nicaragua, Ortega
The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has begun to face a serious challenge, expected to conclude late this year with the mayoralty municipal elections.

After a year of bringing forward policies benefiting the people, the leader of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) Party will try to achieve constitutional reforms giving continuity to his policy.

The idea of changing the political model from presidential to parliamentary does not appeal to the rightwing, which alleges it is a move Ortega will use to be re-elected.

The executive faces a serious opposition by conservative parties, which seem willing to avoid advances at the National Assembly.

Fostering his political, economic, and social project, while winning most mayor's offices in the municipal elections without becoming a referendum on his presidential management will be a hard task for Ortega.
