Salvadorans Favor FMLN for 2009
Opposition FMLN (Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front) is leading voter preference by a broad margin in San Salvador against the ruling ARENA party (Nationalist Republican Alliance), a survey revealed Wednesday.

According to El Diario de Hoy poll, 23.5 percent favors current FMLN Mayor Violeta Menjivar to the question "for whom would you vote to be mayor of San Salvador if elections were held today?"

ARENA's Norman Quijano would get 15.9 percent for a substantial 7.6 percent difference.

When asked which party they would vote for in 2009 general elections, FMLN reached the highest percentage of votes (32.1), with ARENA getting 26.7 percent.

Salvadorans will go to the polls on January 18, 2009 to elect legislators and mayors, and on March 15, 2009 to choose the country's president and vice president.
