US Fugitive
Captured in Costa Rica
A former U.S. airline
pilot wanted for
attempted sexual contact
with a minor was
captured in Costa Rica,
where he taught English
to local children,
authorities said Monday.
Lonnie Ted Crabtree, 41,
was detained Feb. 15
aboard a bus, the local
office of Interpol, the
international police
agency, said in a
statement. Crabtree had
been living in the beach
town of Playa Cobano
with his wife and five
children.
"He was working as an
English teacher for
local children and as a
martial arts teacher,"
according to the
Interpol statement.
Crabtree had tried to
contact a person he
believed to be a
15-year-old girl in an
Internet chat room for
sex, and traveled to
Kentucky to meet her in
2002, only to find that
police detectives had
been posing as the girl,
Interpol said.
Crabtree was turned over
to Costa Rican
immigration officials
for deportation.
According to America's
Most Wanted (AMW)
website, the capture
comes from who tipsters
told AMW where Lonnie
Crabtree was and it was
only a matter of time
before law enforcement
caught up with him.
It seems that Crabtree
has been living the life
of luxury in Costa Rica,
but he forgot to do one
important thing: he
didn't renew his travel
visa.
