Chavez: Venezuela To
Nationalize More Land
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez said Sunday
that more land will be
taken over by the state
as the country presses
ahead its agricultural
revolution.
Speaking in his weekly
broadcast Alo Presidente
in the town of Romulo
Gallegos, in the
southern state of Apure,
Chavez said that more
than 1 million acres of
land had been recovered
by the state in Apure
alone.
So far, around 2 million
hectares have been
nationalized across the
country, but large
landowners remain in
control of another six
million hectares, Chavez
said, adding this is one
of the factors that has
contributed to food
shortages in the
country.
Chavez was visiting
Apure in the company of
Agricultural Minister
Elias Jaua and Governor
of Apure Jesus Aguilarte. |
