Correa: Venezuelan Oil
Solidarity Tops
Ecuadorian President
Rafael Correa
highlighted the energy
integration with
Venezuela at the start
of operations Thursday
of the Venezuelan oil
perforation tower in
Ecuadorian territory.
The first of two power
drills offered by
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez to Ecuador
in August began working
today at the Guanta
Dureno oilfield, and two
more drills will be
arriving.
Accompanied by Petroleos
de Venezuela (PVDSA)
manager Luis Vielma and
Ecuadorian Oil and
Mining Minister Galo
Chiriboga, Correa said
these two pieces of
equipment will help
local oil company
Petroecuador increase
its oil production.
The Ecuadorian
government wants to
increase its 174,000
daily oil barrel
extraction this year by
15,000 barrels.
The president explained
the advantage of renting
the Venezuelan tower for
7,976 dollars a day,
when its value on the
international market is
over 30,000 dollars.
This cost includes spare
parts, maintenance,
operations, Venezuelan
technical personnel and
administrative expenses,
he added.
The strategic alliance
sealed in 2007 between
the state companies of
Ecuador and Venezuela,
is consolidated this
way, he emphasized.
Petroecuador and PDVSA
also created a joint
venture to exploit
another oilfield in the
Amazon, and in June they
will lay the first stone
of a new refinery to be
built in the Ecuadorian
province of Manabi. |
