Samara and Nosara To Have A Paved Road
The 30 kilometre stretch of gravel road between Sámara and Nosara which has become a nightmare for residents and visitors of the area will soon be no more as the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) annouced it will soon pave the road with asphalt.

The announcement was made by Karla González, MOPT minister, following a meeting of the leaders of the communities of La Garza, La Esperanza and Nosara.

The decision came following a hardous and persistent campaign by area residents who have pressured the government to pave the road as soon as possible.

"I don't need to be convinced of the need of the road, because we are betting on the Nicoya Peninsula for the future tourism development of the area", said González.

The completion of the work should take about 210 days, according to the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad Conavi, which has already awarded the contract to the consortium Casisa-Vieto and will have a cost of ¢161 million colones.

According to Antonio Méndez, president of the municipalilty de Nicoya, the minister's response was immediate and was surprised to learn that the project had already been advanced to the point of the already awarding the contract.

"I never assume a commitment I cannot complete", said minister González.
