Legislator Wants To Ban The Traditional Toros A La Tica
The traditional "toros a la tica" - the main event at the town fairs - is coming under scrutiny as one legislators wants them banned. Liberacion deputy, Alexander Mora, is proposing that the running of the bulls be prohibited.

The question that comes into mind is what is the Zapote Fair - the largest of all town fairs - in San José with the bulls? And can the idea planted by Mora obtain support and an actual law passed to stop the traditional year end actitivty?

Mora is proposing a fine equal to 10 base salaries to any who partakes in the "toros", that includes participants in the ring as well as spectactors and proposes prison to organizers or allow the "toros a la tica" event to take place on their property.

The proposal has a long road ahead of it if it ever would to get off the ground as it requires the approval of the Legislative Assembly that unlike the bulls and the participants running away from the bulls, moves at a pace slower than the slowest turtle.

One of the opponents to the Mora proposal is the Municipalidad de San José .

"A tradition ingrained in Costa Rican culture cannot be prohibited. Those who enter the bull ring do so at their own risk, although we agree that it should be regulated to reduce the danger", said Rafael Arias, a San José municipal official.
