Suspected Rapist of Nine Year Nicaraguan May Be Hiding Out in Costa Rica
Costa Rican authorities are on the manhunt for one of the rapists of a nine year old girl in Nicaragua, believing that he is hiding in Costa Rica.

According to complaint filed with the Comisaría de la Mujer de Nicaraguam, the little girl, identified as Carmencita - not her real name - was raped by Pilar y Ronald López, who are father and son,

Carmencita's family said they had to move from Masaya to Granada to avoid contact with the family of the aggressors after the complaint was filed with authorities.

The rape of the little girl first started in November last year and continued to last month when the two men took advantage of the friendship they had with the family of the little girl.

Carmencita is now pregnant, a fact revealed when she missed her period and confirmed by a medical checkup at the local hospital.

Following the filing of the complaint, the Ministerio Público de Nicaragua has issued arrest warrants for the two men and believe that 30 yearl old Ronald López entered Costa Rica illegally in an attempt to flee justice. The Costa Rican Dirección de Migración y Extranjería (immigration service) has no record of the López entry into the country.

Meanwhile, 52 year old Pilar López, Ronald's father, is under house arrest as he has chronic illness.

The trial for the rape of the Carmencita is expected to begin on February 27.

Carmencita is the second child to become pregnant in Nicaragua during the last several months. Last month news of a 10 year old girl from the area of San Carlos in Nicaragua was made known after she was raped by her stepfather. The 10 year old is now 8 months pregnant. The suspected rapist is believed to also made his way into Costa Rica.

The two stories are similar to the story of "Rosita", the nine year old Nicaraguan girl who in 2002 became pregnant while in Costa Rica and was obligated to undergo an abortion.

Five years later her stepfather, Francisco Leonardo Fletes Sánchez, was tried and sentenced to 30 years prison for the rape.

Rosita is now 14 years old and has asked the forgiveness of a Costa Rican farmer for accusing him when it was discovered she was pregnant, in an attempt to protect her stepfather.
