Many Hotels Report Being Sold Out For Semana Santa
Semana Santa or Easter Week is just around the corner and the tradition in Costa Rica is to head for the beaches and mountains. More than a million are expected to invade the country's sand and trails and hotel operators are urging to make reservations early not to be left out in the open.

Some hotels in Guanacaste and Puntarenas that includes beach areas of Tamarindo, Papagayo, Jaco and Quepos, already report no vacancies for the week of March 16 to 23, others are expecting to be sold out by the first week in March.

The Dirección de Tránsito is expecting a busy week during Semana Santa and is making plans to control and patrol routes from the Central Valley to and from the beaches and mountains.

And hotel prices are cheap for the holiday week either.

Some hotels are getting as much as us$250 per night, double what it is during the normal "high tourist" season.

Manuel Rodríguez, president of the Cámara de Hoteles (hotel chamber) says that prices have constantly increased between 4% and 5% each year due to inflation. However, during Semana Santa many hotel operators take advantage of the massive number of people looking for accommodation.
