To Adopt New .CR Domain
Registrants of the .ac.cr,
co.cr, ed.cr, fi.cr,
go.cr, or.cr, sa.cr.
Internet domain names in
Costa Rica face losing
them in April unless
they take action to
register to the new
"official" .CR domain.
Cr. is top level domain
registration for Costa
Rica an beginning in90
days from February 7,
all registrants are
being required to
re-register their domain
to .cr or lose it.
For example
www.yoursite.co.cr
would become
www.yoursite.cr.
The co.cr suffix is used
by commercial websites
and registrants may lose
their name to someone
else if they do not make
the change.
The fi.cr is reserved
for financial
institutions, the go.cr
for government and the
sa.cr, or.cr and ed.cr
for public institutions
and will not face the
same fate as the top
level domain registry
requires proof the
activity for
registration.
The Academia Nacional de
Ciencias _www.nic.cr)
which operates the
domain registry, said it
is eliminating all the
double dot names in
favor of a simple .cr
suffix.
The agency is charging
us$100 for each domain
re-registration. In
contrast, domain
registrations in some
countries is as low as
us$1.99.
