Guanacaste and Limón To Get Closer
Imagine travelling from Guanacaste to Limòn or viceversa in under two hours. That is the promise made by the minister of the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT), Karla González, announcing the construction of a 27 kilometre highway that would connect San Carlos, Upala and Sarapiquí.

The construction of the new highway, to be known as the Tapón de Chilamate, would begin in 2009 and will be financed with ¢30 billion colones (us$60 million dollars) donated by the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), according to the MOPT minister.

The 27 kilometre route will cut down travel time between the province of Guanacaste and the province of Limón to two hours.

The CAF, according to González, is also donating the plans for the project.

The highway will begin in what is known as the Bajos de Chilamate, in Sarapiquí (Limón) and will end at the Vuelta Kooper, in Aguas Zarcas de San Carlos.
