Venezuelan Socialist
Party Debates Platform
The debates of the
foundational congress of
the PSUV (United
Socialist Party of
Venezuela), being held
in the state of Bolivar
this weekend, are
focused on the party's
platform to prepare the
official foundation of
the organization.
According to members of
the PSUV's Technical
Commission, 1,680
delegates will discuss
aspects related to the
party's program, as part
of the works of a
meeting that will close
in mid March.
The draft program was
delivered to delegates
from all over the
country, who will meet
in working commissions
to analyze the proposals
presented by the
battalions (grassroots
cells).
Several aspirants to be
members of the party
noted that it is the
first time in Venezuelan
political history that
the works to found a
party begin at the
grassroots level.
Support Commission
member Alberto Muller
pointed out that the
candidacies for regional
elections in November
might be discussed on
this occasion.
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez spoke about
that issue recently,
when he warned about the
existence of applicants
to different posts
before the analysis of
the mechanisms for the
PSUV to appoint the
possible candidates.
Delegates will also
discuss the party's
statutes and declaration
of principle, among
other issues.
After the proposal to
found the PSUV was
launched last year, 5.7
million Venezuelans
registered as candidates
to join the socialist
organization. |
