Driving Exam Goes
Digital
Obtaining a drivers
license in Costa Rica
has come of age with the
introduction of a
digital theoretical exam
and results within
minutes, in place of the
old pencil and paper
exam that took up a week
or more to find out the
score.
The new system, using a
computer loaded with
1.000 questions, selects
25 questions for the
exam which in effect is
a new exam for each
person being tested.
The system went into
operation on yesterday
(Thursday) and only
requires a series of key
strokes on a computer
keyboard, totally
eliminating the pencil
and paper.
The process starts with
a deposit of ¢5.000
colones at any of the
state banks: the Banco
de Costa Rica, the Banco
Nacional and the Banco
Crédito Agrícola de
Cartago, as well as the
branches of the
Servicoop and the
proceed to the Dirección
Nacional de Ecuación
Vial (driver examination
centre) in La Uruca or
any centre located in
the country.
The 25 questions take
about 45 minutes to
answer and a result of
80% or higher is
required to obtain a
driver's permit.
"The exams are never
repeated, as the
computer uses a ramdom
system to determine the
questions for each exam,
using a mix formula from
one thousand options",
said the ministra de
Obras Públicas y
Transportes, Karla
González.
The results of the exam
are available within 15
minutes after the end of
the exam. |
